  38. Firstly, are you sure that your modem really says CONNECT 33,600 ?
  39. Where do you live and what is the name of your local telephone company?
  40. Is your line a regular residential line or it has been conditioned in any
  41. way, e.g. business line?

  43. The  reason  you get 33,600 on one and 28,800 on another is because
  44. your conenction is neither. Modems routinely display fake connects which
  45. have nothing to do the real throughput. The 28,800 is probably closer to
  46. the truth. I  doubt if you ever get a bit rate on your connection above 26,000 bps.
